I didn’t mean ACTUALLY commit suicide…

Sen Charles Grassley suggested that AIG execs either “resign or go commit suicide,” invoking the Japanese example of ritual suicide. He later insisted that this statement was mere rhetoric, and not an actual call to suicide.

Yes, obviously it was a rhetorical suggestion. But it seems to me it was an ill-advised one, a case of him shooting his mouth off without considering what he was saying. Personally, I think the AIG execs should first give back the money they misappropriated, and then they should go become actual productive members of society by, I don’t know, cleaning toilets in Afghanistan, or ensuring that case workers at their local unemployment office stay busy.
